Here’s the next installment in my series on Psalms 120-134 (Psalms of Ascent) Pilgrims Eyesight (ps123)
Monthly Archives: July 2008
R.C. Sproul is known around the English-speaking world for his ability to communicate the truths of the Christian faith in a cogent and engaging fashion. In my opinion, he, along with J.I. Packer, have made substantive theological content palatable and accessible to a readership that rarely would ever swim down to the deep end of the pool of Christian scholarship. So when I saw that Sproul had written a children’s book, myself being the father of three small children, I was deeply intrigued. That being said, the following is a review of R.C. Sproul’s The Lightlings, illustrated by Justin Gerard, and published by Reformation Trust 2006.
This is the third sermon in my series on the psalms of ascent. Pilgrims and the City of God (Psalm 122)
In my studies as they relate to this series, I am re-reading Eugene Peterson’s Long Obedience in the Same Direction . His illustrations and insight into discipleship as Christian pilgrimmage are invaluable.
Since our church is not able right now to record sermons I thought I could post my sermons in their manuscript form for anyone who wishes to read them. The formatting will probably look a little strange, but I do that to make them preaching-friendly. For most of the files I will list the sermon title with the scripture text in the parentheses.
Just Finished… Resurrection and Redemption by Richard Gaffin. It is not easy reading, but Gaffin really shows how solid biblical scholarship is to be done. Anyone that has ever been troubled by how union with Christ and the order of salvation fits together, this is a must read.
Cry of the Soul: How Our Emotions Reveal Our Deepest Questions About God by Dan Allender and Tremper Longman. See my review of this book at www.christianbook.com.
